About Quincy Jones III pka QD3/QDIII
Quincy “QD3” Jones III, Filmmaker/Music Producer/Digital Media Entrepreneur

For more than 20 years, QD3, a noted creative visionary, has been producing hits in music, film and influencing culture, with his uncanny sensibility of what’s hot.

QD3 was born in London and raised in LA and Stockholm, Sweden were he got his start in entertainment by touring as a break-dancer. At age 13, through his passion for technology and music, he got his first drum machine and started producing demos for local acts which eventually lead to his first gold record at 16 years old. QD3 then moved to New York to pursue his dream to become a music producer in America. After a year and a half in New York working with old school legends T La Rock (1st artist signed to Def Jam) and Special K (of the group Treacherous 3 ft. Kool Moe Dee), QD3 decided to attend the noted Berklee College of Music in Boston to study engineering and music theory. After Berklee QD3 moved to Los Angeles where he immediately connected with Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. He began producing with a talented crew that would include Ice Cube, Tupac, Warren G, Snoop Dogg and many others who would go on to create West coast Hip Hop and change the culture around the world.

With many gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums and singles to his name (over 40mil albums sold), QD3 is a bona fide hit maker in Rap, R&B and Pop. In addition to his many hits with artists such as Tupac, Ice Cube and L.L. Cool J.; QD3 has remixed singles for artists such as Prince, Robyn, Queen, Lionel Richie, Ronald Isley, Latifah, Coolio, Naughty By Nature, Everlast, Morcheeba, among others.

QD3 has also been active in Film and Television composing having scored the influential film Menace to Society, as well as songs featured in Training Day and Office Space. ASCAP honored QD3 with the 1993 ASCAP Composers Award for his work on Fresh Prince of Bel Air starring Will Smith. Other television work includes themes and score for “ In The House” comedy series starring L.L. Cool J, “Grown Ups”, starring Jaleel “Erkel” White, and Eddie Murphy’s animated (Fox) series “The PJ’s;” for which QD3 received an Emmy nomination for best opening theme.

In 1999, QD3 launched a film/TV production company (QD3 Entertainment) focused on chronicling the many dimensions of youth/urban culture. Beginning with the multi-platinum selling DVD, Tupac Shakur – Thug Angel, and followed up with the widely popular, multi platinum selling BEEF Trilogy, QD3 Entertainment emerged as the industry standard for both commercial success and critical acclaim in the youth/urban DVD market place. QD3 Entertainment produces and licenses original programming for multiple broadcast outlets including Showtime, VH1, MTV,Fuse, Nickelodeon, BET, Much Music and many international outlets. The QD3 Film Collection has received rave reviews from publications such as Variety, CNN, The Los Angeles Times, MTV, Huffington Post and Rolling Stone and BEEF won a Vibe Award for “best music DVD” 2003. The QD3 films have been used as part of courses at UC Berkley, Georgetown, Penn State and UCLA among other universities.

QD3’s life long passion for technology and digital media inspired him to build QD3 Entertainment from the ground up with all things optimized for unrestricted multi platform exploitation. To that end, QD3 Entertainent owns and controls all rights to it’s over 3,000 hour library of high draw content. In June 2006, he went on to form QD3 Digital in order to take advantage of the technology explosion of broadband video, user generated content, video on demand and mobile plays and synergies thereof. QD3 has been an active member of the digital media community since 1994 and and received a thought leader award from Standford Technology Ventures Program in Nov 2009.

QD3 continues to make headway in the entertainment industry. In January 2009 he premiered his latest documentary entitled “The Carter” at Sundance wowing audiences and critics with his intimate and personal storytelling about the life and career of international rap artist, Lil’ Wayne. In 2011 QD3 will be premiering 5 projects on Fuse TV along with a suite of related digital offerings, and later in the year, QD3 will be launching it’s first video game, Scratch: The Ultimate DJ in partnership with Genius Products, Numark and Akai. Slated for release on XBox & PS3.
